History of Spains Influence in the Caribbean
The Spanish history is rich and complex. It is not apparent to many in Barbados and other Caribbean islands, which were much impacted by Spain's wars with the British, French, and Dutch.
Among the most substantial effects of the Spanish wars was the destruction and displacement of indigenous communities, who were frequently caught in the crossfire between competing European powers. Many indigenous people were forced into slavery or killed during the wars, annihilating entire communities and cultures.
Also, Spain's influence on the history of the United States is often ignored. Spain's naval power was undoubtedly mighty, and their existence in the Caribbean had significant implications for the British throughout the American War of Independence.
